Jesus is Scourged and crowned with thorns (John 19:1–3)
We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you:
Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.
Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. And the soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they dressed him in a purple robe. They kept coming up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and striking him on the face.
Upon him was the punishment that made us whole,
And by his bruises, we are healed
(Silence)
Lord God, whose blessed Son our Savior gave his body to be whipped and his face to be spit upon: Give us grace to accept joyfully the sufferings of the present time, confident of the glory that shall be revealed; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Holy God,
Holy and Mighty,
Holy Immortal One,
Have mercy upon us.
