Garden Improvements

For 15 years, the property owners of The Abbey of the Heights have taken seriously the invitation from God to take care of God’s creation. Since opening the Abbey in 2021, we’ve been looking for ways to take their work and add to it.

These past months, we have been working with a local garden Designer and friend of the Sabbath Life, Dustin Stoll, who has drawn up a beautiful plan. we are prayerfully seeking $15,000 by the end of the summer for an initial planting to start bringing this plan to life. That’s just the start.

Our big picture dream budgeting includes:

  • A comprehensive plan of new trees, shrubs, perrenials, and bulbs that prioritize sacred prayer spaces

  • A paved-stone labrynth

  • A wrought-iron fence replacing the wood fence on the south end of the property and a wood privacy fence replacing the chain-link on the west end separating the back yard from the highway

  • New permanent and weather-resistant materials for the outside prayer stations

  • 2 years of maintenance for a lead garden steward who can mow the lawn, water the new plants, and guide individual volunteers and volunteer groups in caring for the yard and keeping it beautiful and inviting

We believe this will be a big step in making the backyard a beautiful space where people want to connect with God. This will continue to make the Abbey a place where soul care and care of God’s creation come together.

The design is thoughtfully crafted to be beautiful in all seasons, sustainable and ecologically friendly. Here are a few of the inspiration photos.
