What we do

Spiritual direction

In spiritual direction, two people put their full attention to the work of God in one of their lives. A spiritual director listens with you as you listen to God.

Spiritual direction is fruitful for anyone who wants a deeper experience with God. For those who get a paycheck from a church or a ministry, there's a particular urgency for spiritual direction. There are too many people in ministry burning themselves out with unhealthy emotional habits. There are too many people leaving ministry less human than when they started.

When ministry work pays the bills, there can be a dangerous mix of stuffed emotions and unrealistic expectations that can make our faith journey a confusing mess. Spiritual direction provides a safe haven for asking big questions, expressing fearsome doubts, and saying things out loud you can't say anywhere else.

Whether you're a lead pastor or associate pastor, worship leader or church administrator, youth pastor or children's director, missionary or church planter, seminary student or active church volunteer, meeting regularly with a spiritual director is one important piece of a self-care plan for doing ministry for the long haul.

In the frantic busyness of life, work, family, and ministry, spiritual direction holds a still, quiet, and intentional space each month in your schedule for listening deeply to what God has been speaking to you.

During this season of “physical distancing” due to COVID-19, all meetings are done via online video call.

Testimonials

"Peter came to lead a spiritual practices class on the Enneagram with a group at our church. After the workshop, one participant felt free to be herself again, to renew her sense of self, and to find a new direction that God was leading her that was more authentic, more whole, more life giving." —Rev. Sara Pugh-Montgomery, Boston Avenue United Methodist Church

"As our church seeks to develop spiritually maturing leaders, we asked Peter to help us shape a 12-week servant leadership experience. By all measures, it was a raving success!" —Rev. Charla Gwartney, Faith United Methodist Church

"It's hard to get over-scheduled youth workers to add one more thing to their busy lives. Every one was carving out Sabbath time after his workshop." —B.J. Danner, Claremore First United Methodist Church

"Grounded in a deep appreciation for Scripture and for living the way of Jesus in the world, Peter exudes true presence and passion as he provides spaces for the spiritual growth of students at the Wesley Foundation." —Dr. Anne Walker, Oklahoma State Wesley Foundation
